Remote "On/Off" Control Option
PULSAIR pneumatic controllers are powered by compressed air and do not require electricity. However, pneumatic controllers must be located next to the tank. Because proximity is critical, an increasingly popular PULSAIR option is remote "ON/OFF" capability. The PULSAIR nomenclature is "RC." PULSAIR modifies the controller by adding a solenoid to the on/off air circuit. The solenoid valve turns the controller on or off, and a micro switch transmits a signal back to the remote operating station or control room, indicating that the system is on and mixing. A second solenoid is added to the air powered selector switch on the dual tank controllers that allows the customer to switch tanks from a remote area within the plant.
Using a 24 volt DC or 110 volt AC signal to the solenoid, the RC modification will turn the controller on and off from a remote location. When the alternate tank is selected on FT-2 systems, signals are sent to both the on/off and tank selector solenoids. The 24 volt DC solenoids draw 2.5 watts. PULSAIR normally specifies 24 volt DC solenoids because it is a safe and very common control voltage. However, if requested by the customer, almost any voltage can be supplied.
The remote control option translates directly into energy savings. Too often mixers are turned on and left on longer than necessary. When the controller is connected to a timing device, energy savings become a reality. A pre-selected mixing time is entered and the system started. It will mix for only the pre-selected time and it will not continue through a coffee or lunch break!
